Grandad Bluff
The signature La Crosse backdrop — the whole city and the Mississippi River valley spread out five hundred feet below you. It faces west, which means it’s made for golden hour: the last sun lights your faces while the valley glows behind you. It’s popular for a reason; a weekday or a sunset time slot keeps it feeling like yours.
Riverside Park
Downtown’s front porch on the Mississippi. River, bridges, and big open sky — and it’s steps from several venues, which makes it the most timeline-friendly stop on this list. Evening light over the water here is soft and forgiving, and the walk itself produces the best candids.
Downtown’s brick and murals
Third and Main streets give you a completely different look without leaving downtown: century-old brick, painted signs, murals, and warm window light. This is where bolder couples shine — it reads editorial, like a magazine spread, and it’s unbeatable when weather pushes you off the bluffs.
Pettibone Park
Across the river on the island, two minutes from downtown. Lagoon, willows, open lawns, and clean views back toward the city. It picks up beautiful late light, and because it’s so close, it fits into even a tight timeline.
Perrot State Park
Twenty-five minutes north in Trempealeau, where the bluffs meet the river. If your schedule allows one true adventure stop, this is it — river overlooks, prairie, and trails that feel hours from anywhere. We’ve photographed couples here for years; it never misses.
Your venue’s own grounds
Don’t overlook what you already booked. The best venues around La Crosse — riverfront patios, golf course hills, historic ballroom windows — hold more portrait opportunities than most couples use. We scout your venue before the day so no good light goes to waste.
How we plan stops: one or two locations is right for most weddings. Each stop costs travel time plus regrouping time — we’d rather give you twenty unhurried minutes in perfect light than forty minutes of driving between three spots.
