When to book senior pictures
How far ahead, and what the time buys you.
Start here
The date matters less than the runway before it.
That room is what turns a booked slot into a session built around your son or daughter.
The six answers
What to know.

01 · Lead time
2–3 months, for most
Time for the plan, the outfits and a backup date. Closer can work; ask what’s open.
02 · Two ways to book
01
Booking on what’s open
The Saturday that’s left, a squeezed plan, a session fit into the gap.
02 · Two ways to book
02
Booking on fit
It starts with who they are. The route, the light and the date are built around them.
03 · The school year
Three calendars, one evening
Their practices, your week, Jeff’s ER shifts. Families who reach out before school starts get the most dates.

04 · The planning call
Give the plan room
Bring their activity schedule. We find the evenings first, then time the route to the light.

05 · Weather
Gray skies, fine. Rain, we reschedule.
We bring the light. Booking early leaves room to move the date.

06 · After you book
The reveal, two weeks later
Planning call, session, then your portraits in our theater. Family photos at the end are included.
The investment
One fee, credited in full.
The $300 session fee reserves your date, covers your planning call, the session and your theater reveal — and applies in full toward your artwork; most clients invest $1,500 or more.
If you are not genuinely obsessed with your images, the session fee comes back.

When to book senior pictures in La Crosse
How far ahead to reach out, what fills the calendar, and what happens once you book.
The date matters less than the runway before it.
Most parents start with the calendar: pick a weekend, find someone who has it open. The better question is how much room you give the session before it happens. That room is what turns a booked slot into a session built around your son or daughter. Here are the six answers families ask us for most.
The short answer: most La Crosse families book 2–3 months ahead. That leaves room for the planning call, an evening that fits everyone and a backup date. The $300 session fee reserves your date, covers your planning call, the session and your theater reveal — and applies in full toward your artwork; most clients invest $1,500 or more.

How far ahead should you book?
Most families book 2–3 months ahead. The window isn’t about our availability alone. A session has to land on an evening that works for three calendars at once, and the light has to cooperate on the evening you pick.
Two to three months gives the planning call time to happen, the outfits time to come together, and a backup date if the weather turns. Closer than that can still work. Reach out and we’ll tell you exactly what’s open.
2–3 months ahead. Earlier if their schedule is already full.

Two ways to book. Only one starts with them.
01
Booking on what’s open
The conversation starts with the calendar. You take the Saturday that’s left, the plan gets squeezed into the time that remains, and the session fits whatever gap it was given.
02
Booking on fit
The conversation starts with your son or daughter: who they are, what they love, what you’re picturing. The route, the light and the date get built around them. That’s the version worth booking.
Three calendars. One evening that works.
01
Theirs
Practices, games, rehearsals, tournaments, a part-time job. Once school starts, weeknight evenings fill fast, and evening is when the best light happens.
02
Yours
Work, the other kids, daycare pickups, everyone else’s plans. The session needs your evening as much as theirs.
03
Ours
Two of us at every session, and Jeff works shifts in the ER. Our session dates are set around those shifts.
Here’s the pattern we see: many families wait until school is back in session, right when sports and activities take over the evenings. The families with the most dates to choose from reach out before the school year starts.
Book before the school year fills their calendar.

Why give the planning call room?
The Planning Call is where the session gets designed: who they are, what they love, the look you’re picturing, what to wear. Then we scout the locations and time the route to the light.
Give it room and the session can be built around the real thing: the grand piano by the window, the skateboard, the soccer ball under the streetlights.
Bring their activity schedule to the call. We find the evenings that work first, then plan everything else around them.
The Planning Call is part of the session fee. No add-on, no separate cost.
What if it rains?
Gray skies don’t change the plan. We bring our own light to every session, so the look holds at noon, at dusk, indoors and under a gray Wisconsin sky.
Rain is different. A downpour moves the session, and the new date has to fit everyone’s calendar again. That’s one more reason to book early: room to move the date without a scramble.
Light we build. Rain we reschedule.
What happens after you book?
The Planning Call comes first. Then the session: two to three hours, both of us there the whole time, nothing rushed.
About two weeks later comes The Theater Reveal. We put your portraits on a screen the size of a wall, in person, together, and design the artwork with you in the room, with your home in mind.
Family photos at the end of the session, at no extra cost. Bring everyone, and the holiday card is done.
The $300 session fee reserves your date, covers your planning call, the session and your theater reveal — and applies in full toward your artwork; most clients invest $1,500 or more. If you are not genuinely obsessed with your images, the session fee comes back.

Frequently asked questions
How far in advance should I book senior pictures in La Crosse?
Most families book 2–3 months ahead. That leaves time for the planning call, a date that fits the student’s activities and our schedule, and room to reschedule if rain moves the session.
Is there a best time of year for senior pictures in Wisconsin?
Before the school year fills the calendar, if you can. Once school starts, sports and activities take over the evenings. The light is never the limit: we bring our own, so the look holds at noon, at dusk and under a gray sky.
What happens if it rains on our session day?
We reschedule. Gray skies are fine because we bring our own light, but rain moves the session to a new date that works for everyone.
Can we add family photos to a senior session?
Yes. We can add family photos at the end of the session at no extra cost. They make an easy holiday card.
How much do senior pictures cost in La Crosse?
The $300 session fee reserves your date, covers your planning call, the session and your theater reveal — and applies in full toward your artwork; most clients invest $1,500 or more. If you are not genuinely obsessed with your images, the session fee comes back.
How long is a senior portrait session?
Two to three hours, with both of us there the whole time. Nothing is rushed, and nobody is waiting on the next slot.
When will we see the finished portraits?
At your theater reveal, about two weeks after the session. You see them for the first time in person, and we design the artwork with you that same evening.
What should my son or daughter wear?
Solid colors and textures photograph better than busy patterns. Clothes that reflect who they are, not what they think they’re supposed to wear, make the strongest portraits. We cover it in detail on the planning call.
How do we choose a senior photographer in La Crosse?
Ask how they direct the posing, whether they build the light or hope for it, what the plan is before session day, and how you see the portraits afterward. With us, both of us are at every session, we bring our own light, and you see everything large, in person, in our theater.
Jeff & Alisha Wiswell
We photograph seniors, families, couples and headshots in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Two of us at every session: we direct, we light, we pose. Alisha deserves 90% of the credit for everything we do, both at a session and otherwise.
